A chunk of my crochet time comes from my lunch break at work. I try to take something minimally messy to eat and I get in as many stitches as I can, frequently at my desk. This leads, at times, to questions. There are a couple of particularly crafty and kind people who show genuine interest. While I was making dragonflies earlier in the week, one of the crafty kind people asked, “What are you going to do with these tiny dragonflies?” And while I had visions of decorating everything in my life with them, I had to think realistically about what I could do with them. In addition to crocheting, I love to twist wire and string beads, so I have a fair amount of supplies with which to do just that. I decided to make crochet dragonfly jewelry with these tiny crochet dragonflies!
Crochet Dragonfly Jewelry
These little ecru dragonflies hail from size 30 cotton crochet thread, worked with a .9mm steel crochet hook. I followed my free crochet pattern available here. Initially, I wanted the dragonflies to be a bit smaller. I tried size 80 crochet thread and size 70 crochet thread, and no dice. Size 30 is about as small as my eyes and fingers are comfortable with these days. But I think that gets the dragonflies small enough. I don’t imagine that anyone will say, “why do you have a blanket hanging from your ear?” with these.
Assembling the Jewelry
Anyone can make this crochet dragonfly jewelry once you have the dragonflies. I simply attached the center of the dragonfly head to the loop at the end of a pre-made copper ear wire. Then I used pliers to close the loop back up. For the necklace, I attached a copper oval jump ring to the center of the head of the dragonfly and attached the jump ring to the center of the copper chain. If you do not already have these supplies in your stash or are unsure of how to work with jump rings or ear wires, visit your local bead store. I have found that bead store employees are happy to help and usually have pliers and ideas at the ready.
I have ideas for how to embellish the necklace a little more. The tiny flowers in the photograph are made from a pattern I saved years ago. It is still available online here! I have visions of attaching these flowers in some way to the necklace and to change the orientation of the dragonfly in the middle. I will update when I figure out how to make all of that work together.
What have you done with crochet and jewelry? Have any brilliant ideas for other ways to use these tiny dragonflies? I would love to hear them in the comments!
Cool blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?

First off I would like to say wonderful blog!
I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself
and clear your mind prior to writing. I’ve had
a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out there.
I truly do take pleasure in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost just trying to figure out how
to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Many thanks!
